Chipmunks! Chipmunks!

What is with the chipmunks this year? Last year they were cute. One lived in the rock wall out front and always greeted me on the way to work in the morning. Well, Alice doesn't live there anymore. This year, I have a hole in the flower bed and little dirt piles with cracked acorns (I didn't know they ate acorns) at the bottom of my little stone retaining walls.

There seems to be a bumper crop of the critters this year. I can't kill a chipmunk, so what to do? I am hoping that they will move on next year the same way Alice did this year. (I should mention that Alice used to be named Chip...until she moved away.) On the other hand, I do hold out some small hope that they keep mice out of the yard. I know, I know - pipe dream - it's the poison that keeps the mice out. I don't mind killing mice - and neither would you if you ever had one in the attic.

There are also a TON of rabbits, but I read Watership Down (and the sequel, which was disappointing), so how can I not like rabbits. We have several families in the yard. I think they are all related. Jack is the patriarch, Jill is the matriarch, and the kids - Jane, Jon, and Julie - have never been seen together, so they may be one and the same. But rabbit genealogy is another topic for another day.

Long Time No C

For a while I couldn't decide exactly what this blog was for. I almost gave up. Now, I've decided it's a good place to keep track of things - like stories, book ideas...generally the kinds of things people write about in blogs. The problem, I think, is that if I try to make it funny and entertaining it becomes work - and the last thing I want is another job.

I don't care if you like this blog. I don't care if you read this blog.

I also hate getting interrupted...

Hollywood Comes To Town

So...a couple of months ago Disney came to the neighborhood and a$ked if they could film a scene from an upcoming movie at the house across the street. The neighborhood said ye$$$ and nothing happened for two months.

(At this point I should tell you that there wasn't really that much money involved, it was all to be donated to charity, and it was not the reason we agreed to the filming. I just thought the $$$ were entertaining.)

Then, Sunday morning, the port-a-potties came...four of them. This was not an auspicious start. On Monday we got two cranes and on Tuesday a Condor. No - not a bird, another big truck with a huge light that they use to fake the sun on cloudy days (such as we had during the shoot). By Tuesday night there were more trucks and trailers on the block than you could imagine - not to metion the tent in the neighbors yard and the security guys at the entrances and around the trucks.

We all needed passes to get in and out of the neighborhood and the security guys kept getting freaked out by deer that would sneak up on them in the middle of the night.

Wednesay it got really crazy. Trucks, people, cameras...I stayed home Thursday to watch the shoot and watch Emily on her second day as a movie star. There was a 7:30 AM call which was hard on both of us (after a 10 hour day on Wednesday she was pretty beat). They filmed the same scene over and over and over and Emily was a champ. I was bored silly. Emily became great friends with the princess and you should see both of them in the movie come March or April of 2008. The film is Old Dogs...at least that's what it's called right now. Who knows if they will change the name later. I'll keep you updated.

Friday was Julia's acting debut and she did just as well as her sister. It was a long day again but at the end of it the cameras and trucks were packed and Hollwood (or maybe Orlando) was back on the road and the neighborhood was nice and quiet once again.

We met Kelly Preston and her daughter, Robin Williams and a princess, and a whole lot of real nice crew members. It was also a great way to meet the neighbors. All in all, it was an interesting experience...but I'm glad it's over.

...of the...

Quote, song, whatever. It's my blog - I'll decide.

None for today. It's the idea that counts.

Bands I Have Never Heard Of

I've been thinking about putting the band back together...but it needs a name. So, I'll take a page from my friend Evan's blog and start a list.

1. Tenacious Mice
2. Rankle
3. 700 Knights in Splendiferous Armor (it's a cover band)

Day 1

It is far more difficult than I imagined to create an inaugural post. I suppose I'll start by answering a few questions.

Why write a blog? Well, the short answer is that I want everyone to hear what I have to say. The long answer is...well...longer than I want to get into right this minute.

Why name it Cat Food - Again? Why not? If you don't get the reference, I won't give it to you.

What is this blog about? Me and my life - what else would it be about? There are enough blogs out there already about politics and religion and consumerism and anarchy in the UK, but there is exceedingly little written about me...until now.

Do you have a disclaimer? I don't know. I guess I should write one as I am certain to offend someone at some point with my pointless rambling or angry outbursts. The material in this blog is not intended to harm, defame, slander, or otherwise injure - emotionally, financially, or physically (that would be a tough one wouldn't it) - any person, place, or thing ( i.e. any noun) mentioned explicitly or inferentially herein. The views expressed are not purported to be fact and may, at times, be quite fictional. No animals were harmed (though some may have been fed) to facilitate to the production of this blog.

That was interesting. Are you a lawyer? No. I just like legalese. I also like bad jokes, puns, complex sentence structures, long words, and obscure references. I am also big on grammar - proper grammar - though I am not always successful at implementing it. I will give it my best shot. Oh - and due to the fact that people I know (or don't yet know) may actually read this someday, including those below the age of 10, I will attempt to keep obscenities to a minimum. I also reserve the right to edit or censor any and all comments posted to this blog.

Do you have a parting quote for us today? "Theres a red, under my bed and theres a little green man in my head..."

Full Disclosure: I wrote this post on Jan 31, 2007 for another blog that I never updated. I liked it though, so I transferred it here with some minor edits.
